Corporate identity thieves can disguise themselves as a director of your company.
As company hi-jacking is on the increase, the Metropolitan Police Service and Companies house are urgently advising companies to take simple preventative measures to minimise their company's identity from being hi-jacked.
Protect yourself by signing up to the following three point plan
- Webfiling – the online filing system.
- PROOF – Safeguards company details by only accepting documents sent electronically
- Monitor – keeps an eye on any of your company’s documents filed at Companies House.
Together they help you to keep your company’s identity safe against fraud and theft. ‘company identity theft’, affects both companies and their suppliers. There have been cases where criminals have falsified the public register of companies in order to 'hijack' a company and trade off its credit rating running up huge debts and leaving the Directors with the hassle of dealing with the obvious consequences. What is also worrying is that Companies cannot get fraudulent information removed from their file without a legal judgment, even if there is overwhelming evidence that identity theft has taken place.
There is a one off fee to join this service of £58.75 (inclusive of VAT) which we feel is a small price to pay for your peace of mind.
