Season Summary

The under 18 girls have started the season well with their performances, unfortunately, some of the girls have picked up injuries early on and in preseason games meaning the team is yet to play a match with their full squad

However; this hasn’t deterred them as their teamwork and playing style has given them platform to perform while the new players in the team are settling well.

Three games into the season, the girls started with a 7-4 defeat, followed by 7-3 win and a very close 2-1 defeat.

The last game saw the girls dominate possession and outplay their opponents however; with the match tied at 1-1, the team pushed numbers forward in the last 15 minutes to find the winner but unfortunately succumbed to a late goal defeat making it 1-2 to the opponents.

Match Summary – Kinja 1-2 Welwyn Pegasus

The U18s girls narrowly lost 2-1 this Saturday despite dominating the game. They were hit with the sucker bunch late on and weren’t able to find an equaliser.

The girls started the game well, passing and gaining territory without creating a clear opportunity in the first 15 minutes, as the girls propped for a chance, they were caught on the counter from a mistake from our keeper to make it 1-0 to Welwyn Pegasus.

As the goal was against the run of play, the girls pushed more numbers forward with midfielders joining the attack more often to find a clear chance, 10 minutes before halftime, the team won the ball in defence and builded a great combination through the middle leading to a 1v1 situation for our midfielder Katie, after a great through ball from our Captain, Katie kept a cool head to round the keeper and make it 1-1

After the break, not much changed and the game settled into the same pattern, a team pushing to score and another playing deeper and on the counter.

After number of chances falling to the strikers with many near misses, the best chance came with 20 minutes to go when a free kick from the byline was swung by our Captain onto the far post, Our Centre back Noelani went up and met the cross on the volley first time smashing it onto the crossbar.

Minutes later, our right back was robbed of possession in defence and the winger from the opponents took few yards before unleashing a great shot on to the top corner making 2-1 to them.

In the last 10 minutes or so, the game became a bit chaotic with the defending team clearing most of the balls coming their way while the girls hurried everything and threw everything onto the opponents without having any clear chance thus running out of time and ending the game 2-1 to the opponents.

Despite the result. It was another excellent performance from the girls and on another day with cool heads from the forwards. The game could’ve been won by 5 goals or more.

Season Summary

The girls have enjoyed a great start to the season with massive improvements being made from the first pre-season game a month ago, including Pre-Season games the girls have played 6 and won 5 losing 1, in the process scoring 36 and conceding only 4 goals!

The process made already this season by the whole team is amazing and is exciting to watch them grow into a great team on and off the field!

Match Summary – Kinja 7-0 Hatch End

Kinja enjoyed a great second game of the season dominating from start to finish with a 7-0 victory. A game full of lots of chances created by some passing patterns being a joy to watch. The scoring was opened after an excellent overlap from Brisilda, receiving the ball from Natalia, who fired it home. 2 Goals from Shyan and a goal from Natalia made it 4-0 at half time. The girls were very happy with their performance so far not allowing the opposition to have a shot.

The second half was more of the same with great passing play creating opportunities forcing very good saves from the opposition keeper. Another goal from Natalia and goal from Sonia made the score 6-0.

For the final goal, Nicole ran through on goal, was fouled, but got up to take the free kick, and fired it into the top corner to score!

The Girls really enjoyed the game, giving a great performance.

Season Summary

The Kinja U10 Girls have started the season incredibly strong, winning 3 out of their first four games, having made the move away from the Capital Girls League, to the Hertfordshire Girls Football Partnership League, a league that is renown for having strong, well-organised and intelligent sides.

Each game that has been faced has posed a completely different challenge, some more physically demanding, and some really testing the psychological strength of the players, but the girls are adapting and learning with every game, and have played some fantastic football throughout.

The passion for the game is deep-rooted within all of the players in this side, and they are quickly learning how to help each other on the pitches, with the players regularly giving each other advice and support throughout games, with minimal input being needed from the coaches to get them to work out how to solve the problems that they are facing on a weekly basis.

Match Summary – Kinja 3-0 Berkhamsted Raiders

An absolutely fantastic performance from the girls, in a game which saw all of the action being played in the opposition half, with no shots being taken against our own goal for the whole game.

Starting the game in a formation that the team have never played previously, playing a 1-2-2-2 [usually playing a 1-1-4-1], the girls adapted to the new formation with incredible ease, having fluidity in their play, remaining compact when out of possession, and having players move wide when in possession of the ball, to create space for attacking runs from the defensive players.

Within 5 minutes of the game starting, the girls were 1-0 up, with arguably the best goal of the game. A beautiful passing move, that consisted of 5 of the 7 players out on the pitch receiving the ball and passing it on, finished with Sara collecting the ball inside the area with one touch, to finish with her second touch.

The girls continued to battle well, and had more opportunities to score within the first half, but a string of fantastic saves from the goalkeeper kept the score at 1-0 as the girls went into half time.

For the second half, the formation was changed to the regular 1-1-4-1, which allowed the pitch to be opened up wider, with a diamond shape in the central area of the pitch to allow for different opportunities to attack.

Within a minute of the second half starting, the girls were 2-0 up. After a bit of confusion between two of the players, and the opposition breaking away at goal, Megan tracked back to win the ball near our own box, and started to drive forwards with it. Playing a fantastic 1-2 with Maeve, Megan then drove into the opposition box, and finished at goal.

A second half that seemingly mirrored the first, with the opposition goalkeeper again heroically saving a number of Kinja shots, and some incredibly close attempts from Vihana, who hit the cross bar and the post with two first-time efforts, Kinja got their third goal with just five minutes to go, after Maeve won the ball in midfield, and playing a fantastic pass to Melaine who finished right into the corner of the goal.

Overall a fantastic game from Kinja, showing arguably their best football so far this season, however with a tough test upcoming away to Bury Rangers, full focus is now on next Saturday.
